A Marine’s Disposable War
Explore fifteen photographs from Kenny Bass’s wartime project. Open a photograph, read its description, look more closely, or explore the circumstances and memories around it.
The companion distinguishes what the photograph shows, what Kenny remembers, who made it and what remains uncertain.
This is a working web experience. It is the starting point for evaluating Exhibit XO with museums; it does not establish results from a museum installation.

Landscape color photograph. A dense field of large artillery propellant cases fills the lower half and recedes toward a low horizon beneath a broad pale sky.
Describe the photograph
Long hollow metal cases lie across one another at many angles. Near the camera, their open mouths appear as dark circles among muted tan and gray bodies. Several cases stand more upright in the middle-right area. Short concrete fence posts a few feet from the camera provide a rough scale reference.
The cases become smaller and more densely repeated toward a pale strip in the middle distance. Beyond it, low land and tiny indistinct structures or trees meet the horizon. Pale sky occupies nearly the upper half, bluer on the left and brighter toward the center and right. No people are visible.

- Visitors could ask questions within an agreed body of material. They would retain a way to explore the approved content without AI.
Read the proposed hardware summary
The station combines a visitor interface, local computing, controls and audio. A screenless listening point would have its own electronics and output.
Voice interaction, if included, would start deliberately. The proposed design includes a separate microphone-off control; its physical behavior still needs validation. Local AI would require additional computing.
Offline operation, maintenance, reach, sound, privacy and venue integration would be tested within the pilot. The 3D inspection shows design intent and component relationships, not a fabrication package or evidence of an installed, tested station.

A photograph, an artist’s memory and a museum’s interpretation contribute different kinds of knowledge.
Exhibit XO is designed to keep those voices identifiable, acknowledge uncertainty and give institutions control over what they approve for visitors.
The working companion demonstrates these distinctions in its content. The broader institutional publishing and correction tools remain in development.
How sources and corrections are handled
The companion separates visual description, historical context, personal memory, photographic authorship and uncertainty. Where information is incomplete, that limitation belongs beside the account.
A museum pilot would agree who can contribute, who reviews material, how each contribution is credited, and how corrections or withdrawals reach visitors. Optional AI would work within the agreed material and preserve access to the underlying approved content.

Start with one or two works.
Begin with A Marine’s Disposable War and the browser companion. Agree the content, visitor questions, access needs and staff responsibilities before deciding whether equipment or AI would help.
A pilot would examine whether visitors can use the experience independently, choose meaningful paths and leave with a clearer understanding of the work. It would also examine the museum’s review and support workload.
