Start a planA useful baseline
Exhibit XO treats interpretation as infrastructure connected to the work: a stable address, clear description, layers of context, known authorship and a way to express uncertainty. Its first reference implementation is the digital companion to A Marine’s Disposable War. The core can work on an ordinary visitor device without AI, audio or a physical station.
- Entry: identify the work and offer a direct, readable way in.
- Choice: let people open more description and context at their pace.
- Authority: separate what is seen, remembered, researched and uncertain.
- Continuity: keep a human-readable route when optional technology fails.
What is current, optional or still to be tested?
Current working example: the public AMDW text companion has layered descriptions and direct work links.
Optional: reviewed audio, QR or NFC entry, and venue-specific physical controls may extend a particular installation.
Proposed or prototype: stations, nodes, recognition and AI-assisted interaction require separate evidence and permission. None is required for this Starter or its baseline.

Before opening the doors
Review the actual work and descriptions with their makers and rights holders. Test signs, links, keyboard navigation, screen readers and physical approaches in the venue with people who use them. Assign someone to maintain and correct the content. Automated checks can catch defects; they cannot stand in for that review.
